Tilicho Lake Trek

from 1 USD

Lake Tilicho is home to some of the world’s top scuba divers. According to the Department of Water and Meteorology of Nepal, there are no aquatic organisms in the lake. The Hindus believe that Tilicho Lake is the ancient Kak Bhusundi Lake mentioned in the epic Ramayana. Kak Bhusundi is believed to have been the first sage to narrate the events of Ramayana to the eagle king Garuda near this lake. While telling the story to the eagle, the sage took the form of a crow. Crow means kak in Sanskrit, hence the name of the sage is Kak Bhusundi.

Trip Description - Tilicho Lake Trek

The Tilicho Lake Trek embarks from Kathmandu, the vibrant capital of Nepal. Before the trek commences, you have the opportunity to explore the city at your own pace, soaking in its rich cultural and historical offerings. As you prepare for the ascent, the anticipation builds for the adventure that lies ahead. Tilicho Lake, situated along the main route of the Annapurna Circuit trek, stands as a historic and highly sought-after side hike destination for trekkers. Nestled in the Manang district of Nepal, Tilicho Lake holds the distinction of being the “Highest Lake in the World.” It is positioned in the Annapurna range of the Himalayas, with an impressive altitude of 4,919 meters.

The journey to Tilicho Lake takes hikers through picturesque landscapes, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. This pristine lake attracts enthusiasts from around the world, becoming a noteworthy destination for those seeking an extraordinary trekking experience. Notably, Lake Tilicho is renowned among scuba divers, and despite its high altitude, it is home to some of the world’s top divers. The Department of Water and Meteorology of Nepal reports an absence of aquatic organisms in the lake, adding to the mystique and uniqueness of this extraordinary natural wonder.

Having a guide for the Thorong La Pass trek in the Annapurna Circuit of Nepal is indeed an invaluable requirement, particularly for security management. The Thorong La Pass, standing at an altitude of 5,416 meters above sea level, is one of the most challenging and critical points of the Annapurna Circuit trek. This high altitude presents significant challenges, with only half the amount of oxygen available compared to sea level. Trekking at this altitude can be akin to running a marathon with every step.

The Thorong La Pass is a place where the expertise and guidance of a seasoned trekking guide become crucial. A guide is instrumental in ensuring the safety, well-being, and navigation of trekkers through the demanding terrains and altitudes. For those with extra vacation days, the trek can be extended by 3-4 days to include a visit to Tilicho Lake, adding another layer of adventure to the Annapurna Circuit. Unlike camping, trekkers can find accommodation in the few lodges available at Tilicho Base Camp and between Manang and Tilicho Base Camp. The final leg to reach the lake requires a full day of trekking from the lodge at Tilicho Base Camp.

In summary, a knowledgeable guide enhances the overall trekking experience, providing essential support and ensuring the safety of trekkers, especially during challenging segments like Thorong La Pass.

Accommodation offered during the trip

The accommodation we use may vary depending on our package travel and the range of travel destinations. Before or after the trip you can book comfortable hotels in cities like Kathmandu and Pokhara for your stay. If you book a tea house trekking trip, we will provide a small two-bed room for sharing in the hill lodges which is a basic facility but very clean.

Now, better-equipped lodges are also available in Annapurna and Everest areas but we recommend trekkers to use accommodation above 3500 meters where clean rooms and clean food are readily available. Sometimes a level of flexibility may be required when trekking in remote mountain areas. We believe that you will complete your vacation without any problems and have the trip of a lifetime. If you book camping/trekking, our camping team will manage a comfortable camping site by the river where possible.

There will usually be a dedicated support team on the trip to move luggage and equipment, set up camp, and prepare your food. You will find more detailed information about travel accommodation which is mentioned separately in the lodging section of each vacation package page.

However, you can expect excellent service and high quality in any budget range you choose. You can learn more about different types of travel and their features and the proposed travel price by contacting us directly where we will be very pleased to answer your questions. We always try to choose comfortable accommodation with local character reflecting the best value based on twin share accommodation.

When you book a trip, unless you request a private single room, we will arrange for you to share a twin bed room with a person of the same gender. If you request a private single room, you will need to pay a single room supplementary fee. Please note that during the trek, if the destination is 4000 meters above sea level, only dormitory accommodation with private beds will be available. On trekking trips we try our best but do not promise guaranteed room options. For most of our camping trips, we supply branded two-person tents, including groundsheets.

Mess tent, kitchen tent, toilet tent, service plates, bowls, and all necessities are provided. Members of the mountaineering travel group are requested to manage according to the options given on the website.
