Trip Description - Langtang Gosaikunda Helambu Trek

The Langtang region is a collection of the Tamang Valley north of Kathmandu near the Tibetan border. The journey begins in Kathmandu, the capital of the Himalayan state of “Nepal”, where you will explore and explore the city at your leisure in anticipation of your ascent. The unpaved road is now a day’s journey from Kathmandu to Shyabru Besi. However, Langtang is a relatively less crowded trekking area.

Bill Tillman, famous explorer and climbing partner of Eric Shipton, described Langtang as the most beautiful valley in the world. We cross the sacred lake of Gosaikunda and enter the Laurebina La Pass (4,610 m) into the Helambu Valley. The Langtang and Helambu Valley is located northeast of Kathmandu and offers clients the experience of Sherpa culture without having to visit the Everest region. The Sherpa villages of the Helambu Valley, the heartland of the Tarke Ghyang, are an attractive area for farmers and herders. Langtang Gosaikunda Trek is one of the oldest trekking areas in Nepal located in Langtang National Park.

The 7,000 meter high peaks of the high valley of Langtang, picturesque villages, forests and lakes as well as numerous monasteries and shrines define this varied trek through Langtang Valley, Gosaikunda Lake and Helambu Valley. The sacred lake of Gosaikunda is located at a height of about 4,380 meters above sea level in a picturesque view. Gosaikunda Lake is a major pilgrimage site for Hindus and Buddhists, attracting thousands of tourists every year.  We cross the sacred lake of Gosaikunda and enter Laurebina La Pass (4,610 m) to enter the Helambu valley.

First we have breakfast at the lodge, then we pack our bags and start our trekking journey from Khangjim to Lama Hotel. The trail descends to Small River. Then, we go to Lama Hotel via Rimche. The name “Lama Hotel” is also the name of our destination place, located on the banks of the Langtang River, surrounded by lush green forests and amazing mountain scenery.

Trek from Surka Village to Sherpa Gaon:
From here you will join a rocky dirt road and follow it for 2.3 km, almost all the way to Sherpagaon. It’s not busy at all though, and pretty good as far as street walking goes. There’s a bit of climbing, some downhill, and then mostly gentle undulations, with views of the valley as you go. There is also a chance to see langur monkeys here. On reaching Sherpagaon, leave the road and follow the trail down a few steps to the right. This leads to a metal bridge, and then the trail works its way around the hill to Sherpagaon. The village has a mix of teahouses and houses, as well as wonderful mountain and valley views.

The distance Khangjim and Lama Hotel is about 8.72 km and it takes about 5-6 hours to reach there. During our trek today we will climb 730 meters and descend 460 meters. During the trek, lunch will be arranged in between or at the destination depending on your appetite. After arriving at Lama Hotel, trekkers spend the evening at leisure or trek around with a guide. We will spend the night here. Stay overnight at the Friendly Guest House in Lama Hotel.

  6. Day 6 Trekking - Mundu (3,540 m)

First we have breakfast at the lodge, then we pack our bags and start our trekking trip to Mundu. During our trek, we can see the natural disaster of Langtang village during our Mundu trek. Filled with diverse flora and fauna, the valley is the third most popular trekking region in Nepal. A wonderful view of snow-capped mountains and peaks can be found on the trek. The first walk leads through forest and landslides to the new bridge and then follows a safer alternative route on the east side of the Langtang River. Langtang Lirung (7,227 m) continues into the forest with a beautiful hike.

Trek from Sherpa gaon to Thyangsyap
Wake up early, have breakfast and get ready to start your trekking journey. Today is the second day of the trek and we will trek from Sherpa Village to Thyangsyap via Lama Hotel and Ghoda Tabela. The day begins with the narrow mountain pass of Rimche, where you will join the main Langtang Valley trekking route and meet many trekkers, as well as mules. The climb from Rimche to Thyangsyap is gradual with some steep sections. You will spend most of the day trekking through the beautiful forest along the mighty Langtang River. There are several guesthouses to stop on the way for tea or lunch, and good opportunities to spot langur monkeys, yaks and mountain goats. All in all, a very fun day on the trail that will leave you feeling amazing.

    Trek from Thyangsyap to Mundu
The trekking trail from Thyangsyap to Langtang village offers a dramatic change in scenery, the path gradually climbs up into an open valley flanked by mountains on both sides. It’s a short and straightforward day, where you’ll pass two teahouses and a monastery teahouse village, a rocky landslide area, and we’ll reach Langtang in time for lunch. From Thyangsyap, it’s a steep climb up into the valley on a rocky, dirt road that crosses an open hill. And the views are amazing. From Cairns one has to cross a landslide to reach Langtang village via a clearly marked trail. After crossing a small wooden bridge over the river, the path climbs slightly and leaves the landslide area behind. At the entrance to Langtang are several gem walls – be sure to always walk on the left side of these (and Chorten) as per local custom. There’s also a nice bakery in town – Himalayan Bakery – with a proper coffee machine and baked goodies like apple pies, brownies, cinnamon buns, cookies, and more. After lunch at Langtang we will continue trekking to Mundu. The summit of Tsergo Ri may be the highest point you reach on your Langtang Valley trek.

The distance Lama Hotel and Mundu is about 13.00 km and it takes about 6-7 hours to reach there. During our trek today we will climb 1,080 meters and descend 30 meters. During the trek, lunch will be arranged in between or at the destination depending on your appetite. After arriving at Mundu, trekkers spend the evening at leisure or trek around with a guide. We will spend the night here. Stay overnight at the Golden Holiday Guest House in Mundu.

  7. Day 7 Trekking - Kyangjin Gompa (3,830 m)

First we have breakfast at the lodge, then we pack our bags and start our trekking trip to Mundu. During our trek today you can enjoy the view of the valley and the wonderful view of Langtang Lirung on the way to Kyangjin Gompa. We will explore in and around Kyangjin Gompas architectural excellence and spiritual insight. The panoramic view of the big mountains and the Langtang valley is very charming and breath-taking. Kyangjin Gompa is known as the last place in this valley where we spend the night and it is also the last one the main destination of this trek. The valley is surrounded by Himalayan scenery.

    Trek from Mundu to Kyangjin

Another half-day hike, the scenery in this section is amazing, with beautiful mountain, glacier and river views. There is also a succession of impressive gem walls, as well as chortens and stupas aplenty. The walk is straight, climbing gently for the most part. As you leave the Mundu continuous trek you will soon enter Sindum, which is just a continuation of Mundu. A painted rock sign tells you to stick to the left path, and from here just before Kyangjin Gompa, the paths leading up and down the valley diverge. Following the path to the left you will come to a large white stupa and then the local hydroelectric station that serves Kyangjin Gompa, Langtang and the villages in between. Soon you will cross a suspension bridge, offering a spectacular view of the Kimshung Glacier to your left. From here, it’s just a short walk to Kyanjin Gompa, with your first view of the colorful village coming into sight at the top of a knoll, just beyond the ‘Himalayan Hilton’ sign.

    Explore Kyangjin Gompa
Afternoon we will explore the Kyangjin Gompa which is popular for its ancient gompa, glacier and cheese factory. It additionally gives an chance to climb Kyangjin Ri and Tsergo Ri from where the 360 degree view of the mountains are absolutely lovely and awe inspiring. Accommodation offered during the trip

The accommodation we use may vary depending on our package travel and the range of travel destinations. Before or after the trip you can book comfortable hotels in cities like Kathmandu and Pokhara for your stay. If you book a tea house trekking trip, we will provide a small two-bed room for sharing in the hill lodges which is a basic facility but very clean.

Now, better-equipped lodges are also available in Annapurna and Everest areas but we recommend trekkers to use accommodation above 3500 meters where clean rooms and clean food are readily available. Sometimes a level of flexibility may be required when trekking in remote mountain areas. We believe that you will complete your vacation without any problems and have the trip of a lifetime. If you book camping/trekking, our camping team will manage a comfortable camping site by the river where possible.

There will usually be a dedicated support team on the trip to move luggage and equipment, set up camp, and prepare your food. You will find more detailed information about travel accommodation which is mentioned separately in the lodging section of each vacation package page.

However, you can expect excellent service and high quality in any budget range you choose. You can learn more about different types of travel and their features and the proposed travel price by contacting us directly where we will be very pleased to answer your questions. We always try to choose comfortable accommodation with local character reflecting the best value based on twin share accommodation.

When you book a trip, unless you request a private single room, we will arrange for you to share a twin bed room with a person of the same gender. If you request a private single room, you will need to pay a single room supplementary fee. Please note that during the trek, if the destination is 4000 meters above sea level, only dormitory accommodation with private beds will be available. On trekking trips we try our best but do not promise guaranteed room options. For most of our camping trips, we supply branded two-person tents, including groundsheets.

Mess tent, kitchen tent, toilet tent, service plates, bowls, and all necessities are provided. Members of the mountaineering travel group are requested to manage according to the options given on the website.
