Trip Description - Oktang Base Camp

A trek to Oktang base camp will show us one of the most remote areas in Nepal, where we can find the world’s third-highest mountain, Kanchenjunga (8,590 meters). The Mount Kanchenjunga is located to the east and on the border with the old states of India and Sikkim. We will be able to visit the two base camps of Mount Kanchenjunga located to the north and south of the mountain. Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek is also known as Pangpema Base Camp Trek. The southern base camp of Kanchenjunga is also famous for its Kanchenjunga mountain expedition. It is also known as Yalung Base Camp and Oktang Base Camp. The Kanchenjunga base camp is also the longest trek in Nepal. It forces hikers to spend a night at the foot of the world’s third highest mountain.

So far, this is the only trekking proposed by Jagadamba Holidays Private Limited in Eastern Nepal. The trekking route to Kanchenjunga south base camp is less crowded than other trekking routes in Nepal. We believe, if trekkers like solitude in rhododendrons and fir forests, they will love this trek. Trekkers will walk on the cliffs to see the panoramic view of Chamlang, Mera, Makalu and Kanchenjunga mountains.

If we start this trek via Basantapur, the trekking trail also traverses the beautiful Arun and Tamur valleys with the best climate in Nepal, which further inspires our trekking spirit and more about this trek. Before have taste of the sublime beauty of Kanchenjunga north base camp also at rest day in Kathmandu of this trip, which we particularly recommend for a first visit to Nepal: old royal cityBhaktapur Durbar, Buddhist stupa – Bouddhnath and Hindu temple – Pashupatinath.

The accommodation we use may vary depending on our package travel and the range of travel destinations. Before or after the trip you can book comfortable hotels in cities like Kathmandu and Pokhara for your stay. If you book a tea house trekking trip, we will provide a small two-bed room for sharing in the hill lodges which is a basic facility but very clean.

Now, better-equipped lodges are also available in Annapurna and Everest areas but we recommend trekkers to use accommodation above 3,500 meters where clean rooms and clean food are readily available. Sometimes a level of flexibility may be required when trekking in remote mountain areas. We believe that you will complete your vacation without any problems and have the trip of a lifetime. If you book camping/trekking, our camping team will manage a comfortable camping site by the river where possible.

There will usually be a dedicated support team on the trip to move luggage and equipment, set up camp, and prepare your food. You will find more detailed information about travel accommodation which is mentioned separately in the lodging section of each vacation package page.

However, you can expect excellent service and high quality in any budget range you choose. You can learn more about different types of travel and their features and the proposed travel price by contacting us directly where we will be very pleased to answer your questions. We always try to choose comfortable accommodation with local character reflecting the best value based on twin share accommodation.

When you book a trip, unless you request a private single room, we will arrange for you to share a twin bed room with a person of the same gender. If you request a private single room, you will need to pay a single room supplementary fee. Please note that during the trek, if the destination is 4000 meters above sea level, only dormitory accommodation with private beds will be available. On trekking trips we try our best but do not promise guaranteed room options. For most of our camping trips, we supply branded two-person tents, including groundsheets.

Mess tent, kitchen tent, toilet tent, service plates, bowls, and all necessities are provided. Members of the mountaineering travel group are requested to manage according to the options given on the website.
