Trip Description - Khopra Danda Trek

The Ghandruk Loop and Khopra Ridge trek leads up to Poon Hill (3,210 m) in Myagdi where you can witness the amazing sunrise views of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna mountains. The Khopra Danda Trek is also known as Khopra Ridge Trek, Khayer Barah Trek, Khayer Lake Trek and Khayer Barah Lake Trek. The trek to Annapurna base camp is suitable for those who want to get a glimpse of the beauty of the Himalayan in Nepal in a short time, but it is also suitable for those who are new to hiking in the Himalayan, as this visit will not take you to extreme heights. During this trek we walk through paddy fields and tropical bamboo and rhododendron forests.

We frequently cross the beautiful traditional, small villages, stop at the Machhapuchhre base camp and finally get overwhelmed by the impressive high mountain landscape of the Annapurna base camp. From here we can enjoy truly beautiful views of Annapurna, Machhapuchhre and various other peaks – it does not get any better or tighter. You can’t get close to eight thousand in such a short time. However, it is also suitable for families and students!

At the end of this trek, if any of you have time, you can extend your vacation by adding a 2 night 3 day jungle safari package tour to Chitwan National Park.

  2. Day 2 Arrival Day in Kathmandu - Arrive at your convenience!

    Upon your arrival in Nepal, Jagadamba Holidays representatives will greet you at Tribhuvan International Airport, holding a Jagadamba Holidays placard (signboard). In the event of a late-night arrival, our representative will arrange private transportation to the hotel. Detailed information about tour briefings and group meeting times will be communicated by the representative.

    During the meeting, we will discuss travel plans and services, and introduce the trek or tour guide according to the itinerary. It is mandatory to complete a legally binding travel form and a non-liability disclaimer form during this session. If any individual has an outstanding tour payment, it must be settled at this meeting. Accommodations for the night will be provided at Kathmandu Guest House or at a hotel of similar standard in Thamel.

  3. Day 3 Travel from Kathmandu to Pokhara (820 m) by deluxe air-conditioned tourist bus.

    Embark on a comfortable and scenic journey from Kathmandu to Pokhara (820 meters) aboard a deluxe air-conditioned tourist bus. Enjoy the picturesque landscapes as you travel to this enchanting destination renowned for its stunning natural beauty and serene lakes. The deluxe AC tourist bus ensures a pleasant and relaxing ride, allowing you to soak in the beauty of the Nepalese countryside on your way to Pokhara.

    The road distance from Kathmandu to Pokhara is approximately 200 kilometers (124 miles). The travel time can vary depending on factors such as road conditions, traffic, and the mode of transportation. Typically, by road, the journey can take around 6 to 8 hours, whether you’re traveling by bus, car, or other means. Keep in mind that the travel time can be longer during adverse weather conditions or if you choose a more leisurely mode of transportation. Accommodations for the night will be provided at Hotel Middle Path or at a hotel of similar standard in Pokhara.

  4. Day 4 Drive from Pokhara - Ghandruk (1,950 m) then start trekking to Tadapani (2,630 m).

    Our expedition kicks off with a hearty breakfast at the hotel, followed by the meticulous task of packing our bags for the upcoming adventure. Setting out on our trek to Ghandruk via a private vehicle, we cover an approximate distance of 59.40 km from Pokhara to Ghandruk, passing through Nayapul. The journey takes approximately 3 hours, and upon reaching Ghandruk bus station, we initiate our trek to the historic Ghandruk village, celebrated for its strategic significance during the British colonial period for the Gurkha army. Ghandruk is steeped in history, adorned with centuries-old temples and monasteries scattered throughout the area.

    Following a satisfying lunch in Ghandruk, our trek proceeds to Tadapani, a village whose name, translating to ‘distant water’ in Nepali, reflects its connection to a distant water source within the village. Tadapani acts as a crossroads for various trails, linking to ABC via Chuile and Gurjung, as well as leading to the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek.

    The trek from Ghandruk to Tadapani covers an approximate distance of 8.4 km, requiring about 5-6 hours to traverse. The ascent during this segment is 700 meters, with no descent. Upon reaching Tadapani, trekkers have the option to enjoy a leisurely evening or explore the surroundings with a guide. Accommodations for the night are arranged at the Fishtail View Top Lodge in Tadapani, providing a tranquil haven amid the mesmerizing Himalayan landscape.

  5. Day 5 Trek from Tadapani to Dobato (3,450 m)

    Our day begins with a nourishing breakfast at the lodge, followed by the preparation of our backpacks for the upcoming trekking adventure to Dobato. The trail from Tadapani to Dobato may be challenging, characterized by steep inclines, yet the entire Rhododendron Sanctum Woods provides a captivating experience for nature enthusiasts. This area is a haven for birdwatching, allowing trekkers to immerse themselves in the vibrant and unforgettable life of the region.

    The Khopra Danda Trek, meticulously designed by Jagadamba Holidays, offers a unique and unparalleled trekking route. Recently introduced, Muldai Peak (3,637m) serves as a noteworthy viewpoint on this trek. To witness the best mountain views of the surrounding peaks, trekkers are encouraged to rise early and embark on a walk to Muldai Peak.

    The distance between Tadapani and Dobato spans approximately 9 km, requiring around 6-7 hours to cover. Today’s trek involves a challenging ascent of 1300 meters and a descent of 500 meters. Upon reaching Dobato, trekkers have the evening at their leisure or can opt to explore the surroundings with a guide. Accommodations for the night are arranged at the Hotel View Top Point in Dobato, offering a comfortable and tranquil stay amid the breathtaking mountainous landscape.

  6. Day 6 Sunrise Trek to Muldai Peak (3,637 m) and Trek to Upper Chistibung (3,000 m)

    Begin your morning with a brisk half-hour uphill walk to witness the breathtaking sunrise from Muldai View Point. As the morning journey concludes back at the lodge, you’ll have a relaxing half-hour for breakfast upon your return. After this nourishing meal, it’s time to pack your bags and embark on the trekking adventure to Upper Chistibung.

    The route unfolds with a mix of ascents and descents through the enchanting rhododendron forest. Along the way, you’ll traverse the scenic Charanbeli Kharka, offering a stunning view of the Dhaulagiri range up close. Post-Dobato, the trekking trails provide a genuine rustic Nepal experience, adorned with community and private lodges in Upper Chistibung that offer reasonably satisfactory basic accommodation for trekkers.

    The distance between Dobato and Upper Chistibung covers about 8 km, with an estimated trekking time of 5-6 hours. Today’s trek involves climbing 350 meters and descending 800 meters. Upon reaching Upper Chistibung, trekkers have the evening to unwind or explore the area with a guide. Accommodations for the night are arranged at the Chistibung Communality Lodge in Upper Chistibung, providing a comfortable and authentic overnight stay.

  7. Day 7 Trek from Upper Chistibung to Khopra Danda (3,660 m)

    Commencing our day with a wholesome breakfast at the lodge, we then prepare our bags for the trekking adventure to Khopra Danda. The day’s journey unfolds with a steep climb to the summit of Khopra Danda, known for offering a breathtaking 240-degree panoramic view of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges. The Khopra Danda Trek, also popularly known as the Khopra Ridge Trek, promises an unforgettable experience, showcasing rich natural beauty that ensures trekkers have the time of their lives. This trek is gaining popularity in the Annapurna region for its off-the-beaten-trails features.

    The trekking path treats trekkers to amazing views of surrounding eight-thousanders and other peaks, as well as a traverse through dense rhododendron forests, oak and pine trees, and terraced farm fields. Along the journey, ancient villages come into view, providing a glimpse into the diverse ethnic groups residing in the region, including Gurung, Magar, Brahmin, Chhetri, and Dalits.

    The distance between Upper Chistibung and Khopra Danda spans about 3 km, with an estimated trekking time of 4-5 hours. Today’s trek involves ascending 700 meters with no descent. After reaching Khopra Danda, trekkers have the evening to relax or explore the surroundings with a guide.   8. Day 8 Day hike trip to Khayer Lake (4,650 m) via Khayer Lake Base Camp (4300 m)

    Today poses a formidable challenge for trekking enthusiasts, as we embark on an intense day of tourist activities to visit Khayer Lake and the revered Khayer Barani Temple, nestled at an altitude of 4665 meters. Considered a holy lake by Hindus, it is believed that bathing in these sacred waters contributes to the attainment of nirvana.

    Be prepared for a demanding 10-11 hour round-trip trek today, as the journey from Khopra to Khayer Lake covers a considerable distance. The Khopra ridge area is also home to a rich array of Himalayan wildlife, including the rare Himalayan Thar. Overall, the Khopra Danda Trek offers awe-inspiring views of the massive Annapurna range. Many trekkers opt for a day hike to Khayer Lake, providing an opportunity to explore the authentic and rustic routes of the Himalayas.

    The round-trip distance from Khopra Danda to Khayer Lake spans approximately 12 km, requiring 9-11 hours to complete. Today’s trek involves a challenging ascent of 1250 meters and a descent of 1250 meters. After reaching Khopra Danda, trekkers can spend the evening engaging in leisure activities. Accommodations for the night are arranged at the Khopra Co-operative Lodge in Khopra Danda.

    Khayer Lake and Khayer Barani Devi hold special significance, with a popular belief that visiting the renowned Khayer Barani Temple fulfills one’s wishes. On the auspicious day of Janai Purnima (full moon day of August), hundreds of people from across Nepal pilgrimage to Khayer Barani Devi, hoping for the realization of their desires. The Khayer Lake, situated at an elevation of about 4,665 meters, features a temple dedicated to Khayer Bharani Devi. Known for its religious and natural prominence, the journey to Khayer Khola can be initiated with a short trek from Beni, taking approximately 3 days to reach this revered destination from the foothills of the Annapurna hills in Myagdi District.

  9. Day 9 Trek from Khopra Danda to Swanta Village (2,240 m)

    Commencing our day with a hearty breakfast at the lodge, we pack our bags for the next leg of our trekking journey to Swanta. The route takes us through undulating terrain, with a mix of downhill and uphill stretches. This segment offers captivating glimpses into the Himalayan lifestyle, with panoramic views of Mount Dhaulagiri providing a stunning backdrop to terraced farms and traditional houses in nearby villages.

    Swanta, a small village in Nepal, becomes our trekking destination for the day. Situated near Phalate and Chitre village in the Annapurna region, Swanta showcases the charm of Nepalese village life. Villages, characterized by human settlements or communities, range in size from a few hundred to a few thousand residents. While most villages in Nepal are found in rural areas, the term also applies to certain urban neighborhoods. Villages are typically permanent, featuring closely clustered houses and a sense of permanence in their settlements.

    The distance between Khopra Danda and Swanta Village spans about 8 km, with an estimated trekking time of 6-7 hours. Today’s trek involves a modest ascent of 50 meters and a significant descent of 1450 meters. Upon reaching Swanta Village, trekkers have the evening to unwind or explore the surroundings with a guide. Accommodations for the night are arranged at the Hotel Candle Inn in Swanta Village, providing a comfortable and pleasant overnight stay.

  10. Day 10 Trek from Swanta to Ghorepani (2,860 m) via Chitre (2,390 m)

    Our day begins with a satisfying breakfast at the lodge, followed by the preparation of our bags for the trekking journey to Ghorepani. The trail descends from Swanta to a small stream, passing through village fields and offering a glimpse of a Ghatta (local water mill). Continuing on, we cross the suspension bridge at Chitre village, joining the main trekking trail to Ghorepani. Along this route, trekkers are treated to hours of panoramic views, including the majestic Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Machhapuchchhare, and Annapurna mountains.

    Ghorepani, renowned as a rest stop for the popular Poon Hill trek, stands as a popular hill station in the Annapurna region of Nepal. Located in the Myagdi district of the Dhaulagiri zone, this region was historically frequented by traders giving water to horses, leading to the old name Ghodepani. Over time, the term evolved into Ghorepani. The area is a cherished rest stop for trekkers and traders, offering a refreshing break amidst its enchanting natural surroundings.

    The Ghorepani region is celebrated for its vibrant Rhododendron flowers, surrounded by beautiful forests, mountains, and hills. Home to indigenous plant species, diverse birds, and animals, Ghorepani serves as an idyllic rest stop for trekkers. The rhododendron forest between Ghandruk and Ghorepani is considered the largest redwood forest globally, making it a significant point for various treks, including the Annapurna Circuit Trek, Poon Hill Trek, Khopra Danda Trek, and Annapurna Base Camp Trek.

    The distance between Swanta and Ghorepani covers about 5 km, with an estimated trekking time of 5-6 hours. Today’s trek involves ascending 750 meters and descending 100 meters. Upon reaching Ghorepani, trekkers have the evening to relax or explore the area with a guide. Accommodations for the night are arranged at the Hotel Sunny in Ghorepani, known for its warm hospitality, delightful cuisine, and stunning views.

  11. Day 11 Sunrise Trek to Poon Hill (3,210 m) and Trek to Mohare Danda (3,313 m)

    Embarking on a captivating morning, we undertake a 45-minute uphill trek to Poon Hill (3,210 m), reaching the Poon Hill View Point to witness the enchanting sunrise. The tour concludes back at the lodge after this mesmerizing experience. Upon returning to the lodge, there is a half-hour break for a leisurely breakfast.

    The trail to Poon Hill is well-marked and typically busy, with many fellow trekkers making the journey. It’s advised to carry essentials such as water, a headlamp, and a camera while leaving the rest at the lodge. Additionally, bring money to cover the entrance fee (NPR 200 per person) and for tea or coffee expenses at the summit during your stay at Poon Hill. Weather permitting, the sunrise views from the summit are breathtaking, with a clear sight of the sun rising behind the mountains. Therefore, waking up early and making the 45-minute climb to the top of Poon Hill is undoubtedly worthwhile. Alternatively, if early mornings aren’t appealing, trekkers can venture to Poon Hill in the afternoon for sunset views.

    After breakfast, we pack our bags and commence the trekking journey to Mohare Danda, a destination renowned for offering the best views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountains. Situated at an altitude of about 3,313 meters, Mohare Danda provides a close-up encounter with the mountain ranges. The trek to Mohare Danda is relatively short and easy, making it accessible for both novice and experienced trekkers.

    Mohare Danda is a special trekking destination within the Annapurna region, supporting local projects that promote ecotourism and enhance the standard of living for the local community. This trek, known as the Ghorepani to Mohare Danda Trek or Nepal Eco Community Lodge Trek, offers a unique rural trekking experience in Nepal, less crowded than other popular destinations in the Annapurna region.

    The distance between Ghorepani and Mohare Danda covers approximately 5.25 km, with an estimated trekking time of 4-5 hours. Today’s trek involves climbing 540 meters and descending 70 meters. Upon reaching Mohare Danda, trekkers have the evening to relax or explore the area with a guide. Accommodations for the night are provided at the Mohare Community Lodge in Mohare Danda, offering a comfortable and memorable overnight stay.

  12. Day 12 Trek from Mohare Danda to Ulleri (1,960 m)

    Your guide will set an alarm to ensure you don’t miss the spectacular sunrise the next morning. From Mohare Danda, witness the breathtaking sunrise views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Himalayas, along with many other peaks in the vicinity. The lodge offers an authentic local organic breakfast served in the open garden, allowing you to savor your meal with the magnificent backdrop of surrounding mountains and the sunrise.

    Wake up early to soak in the mesmerizing sunrise over the snow-capped peaks of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, and Manaslu. Following this awe-inspiring start to the day, enjoy a hearty breakfast before commencing our trek from Mohare Danda to Ulleri. The trek trails predominantly involve a mix of uphill and downhill mountain walks, followed by a hill walk leading to the charming farming village of Ulleri.

    The distance between Mohare Danda and Ulleri spans approximately 6-7 km, with an estimated trekking time of 4-5 hours. Today’s trek involves climbing 100 meters and descending 1353 meters. Upon reaching Ulleri, trekkers have the evening to relax or explore the area with a guide. Accommodations for the night are arranged at the Purnima Guest House in Ulleri, providing a comfortable and pleasant overnight stay.

  13. Day 13 Trek from Ulleri to Hile (1,430 m) & Drive to Pokhara (820 m)

    After breakfast, commence the trek from Ulleri to Hile (1,430 m). The trek covers a distance of approximately 3 km and takes about 3 hours to reach Hile. During this trek, there is an ascent of 10 meters and a descent of 550 meters.

    Upon reaching Hile, the journey continues as we drive to Pokhara (820 m) by private vehicle. The distance from Hile to Pokhara, via Nayapul, is about 52 km and takes approximately 2-3 hours to reach Pokhara by private vehicle.

    Upon your arrival in Pokhara, check in to the Hotel Middle Path & Spa, where you will spend the night and have leisure time for your private activities. Enjoy the amenities and surroundings of the hotel, and make the most of your time in the beautiful city of Pokhara. If you have any specific activities or attractions you’d like to explore, feel free to plan them during your leisure time in Pokhara.

  14. Day 14 Travel from Pokhara to Kathmandu (1,350 meters) aboard a luxurious air-conditioned tourist bus.

    Embark on a comfortable journey from Pokhara to Kathmandu (1,350 meters) aboard a deluxe air-conditioned tourist bus. This mode of transportation ensures a relaxing and scenic trip between these two prominent cities in Nepal. Enjoy the journey and the changing landscapes as you travel from the picturesque lakeside city of Pokhara back to the vibrant capital, Kathmandu.

    Upon arriving in Kathmandu, proceed with the hotel check-in process. After checking in, you’ll have free time to explore and enjoy the attractions of Kathmandu. Whether you choose to stroll through the bustling streets, visit cultural sites, or relax at a local café, make the most of your leisure time in the vibrant capital city.   15. Day 15 Departure Day for Home - Depart at your convenience!

    After enjoying breakfast, kindly vacate your room and store your luggage at the hotel. Feel free to unwind in the hotel lobby or explore the nearby local market for any last-minute shopping for friends and family before you head to the airport for your homeward flight.

    As there is limited space at Kathmandu Airport, all airlines have requested passengers to report at the check-in counter three hours before the actual departure time. To accommodate this, we will pick you up from the hotel three and a half hours in advance, considering the estimated travel time to the airport is approximately half an hour.

Accommodation offered during the trip

The accommodation we use may vary depending on our package travel and the range of travel destinations. Before or after the trip you can book comfortable hotels in cities like Kathmandu and Pokhara for your stay. If you book a tea house trekking trip, we will provide a small two-bed room for sharing in the hill lodges which is a basic facility but very clean.

Now, better-equipped lodges are also available in Annapurna and Everest areas but we recommend trekkers to use accommodation above 3500 meters where clean rooms and clean food are readily available. Sometimes a level of flexibility may be required when trekking in remote mountain areas. We believe that you will complete your vacation without any problems and have the trip of a lifetime. If you book camping/trekking, our camping team will manage a comfortable camping site by the river where possible.

There will usually be a dedicated support team on the trip to move luggage and equipment, set up camp, and prepare your food. You will find more detailed information about travel accommodation which is mentioned separately in the lodging section of each vacation package page.

However, you can expect excellent service and high quality in any budget range you choose. When you book a trip, unless you request a private single room, we will arrange for you to share a twin bed room with a person of the same gender. If you request a private single room, you will need to pay a single room supplementary fee. Please note that during the trek, if the destination is 4000 meters above sea level, only dormitory accommodation with private beds will be available. On trekking trips we try our best but do not promise guaranteed room options. For most of our camping trips, we supply branded two-person tents, including groundsheets.

Mess tent, kitchen tent, toilet tent, service plates, bowls, and all necessities are provided. Members of the mountaineering travel group are requested to manage according to the options given on the website.
