Highlights of Lalitpur

KHOKANA : 1 Hour
According to the new administrative division of Nepal, Khokna is a unit of Lalitpur Metropolitan City of Lalitpur District. The Khokana is a former village development committee of Lalitpur district. This place has been famous for producing mustard oil since ancient times. It was also the oldest and first city in Nepal to be electrified in 1911 under Rana Prime Minister Chandra Shamsher.

BUNGMATI : 1 Hour
Bungmati (Bungamati) is a small village in Lalitpur Metropolitan City of Lalitpur District, which is full of unique culture and customs. Bungamati is a Newar town located on land not seen by the Bagmati River. Despite the rapid changes in the lifestyle of the urban population and the global lifestyle, the locals of Bungamati are largely untouched by modern life. Rato Machhendranath Temple, Karyabinayak Temple and Bungmati Bhairav are the attractions of Bungmati.

CENTRAL ZOO : 2 Hour
The Central Zoo covered the area of six hectares, lies in Jawalakhel, Lalitpur. It is home of about 870 animals and 109 species which is operated by the National Trust for Natural Conservation. The Central Zoo has been started as a private zoo by Rana Prime Minister Judd Shamsher in 1932. This Zoo was came into under control of Nepal government in 1950, and it was opened to the public since 1956. The central pond of the zoo was built during the reign of King Siddhi Narasimha Malla and was once the source of water for the Patan City.

PATAN PALACE : 3 Hours
Patan Durbar Square is located in the center of Lalitpur district of Nepal. This is one Durbar Square out of the three Durbar Squares in the Kathmandu Valley. All are the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The attraction of the Patan Durbar Square is the old royal palace inhabited by the Malla kings of Lalitpur.

Durbar Square is a marvel of Newar architecture of ancient Nepal. The floor of the durbar square was covered with red bricks. There are many traditional temples and unique idols in this area. Still there are also old Newari traditional residential houses in the durbar square area. Patan Durbar Square is the attraction center of both Hindus and Buddhists followers.

The former royal palace complex is the center of Patan’s religious and social life and has a museum with a series of bronze statues and religious objects therefore Patan Durbar Square is a famous tourist destination. Patan Durbar Square was declared a World Heritage Site in 1979. This narrow group of temples is perhaps the most exquisite display of Newari architecture found in Nepal.

The Krishna Temple was built in 1637 by Siddhi Narasimha Malla, who had dreamed of an incarnation of Vishnu and his wife Krishna and Radha appearing in front of his palace and built a temple on the same site.
