Trip Description - Everest Three Passes Trek

Everest Three Passes Trek is called Everest The Hard Way Trek as well. The journey starts from Kathmandu which is the capital of the Himalayan state “Nepal“, where you will explore and explore the city in your spare time in anticipation of your ascent. This excellent lodge-based trekking holiday makes a complete high-level circuit of the Khumbu and traverses three major passes connecting the Khumbu, Imza river valleys, Gokyo and Thame. Crossing the Ngozumpa Glacier, we then climb up to reach Gokyo and the dramatic view of Mount Everest and surrounding other many peaks.

Our walk takes us along the path to Kongma La (5,535 m) before joining the Everest Trail and continuing to descend through the villages of Dingboche and Pangboche and the monastery of Tengboche. Running this circuit of the main pass of Khumbu in a clockwise direction means that we maximize our adaptability and spend the least amount of money on uncrowded roads and leaving Everest Base Camp in the rugged valley of Bhote Koshi as the highlight of the trip. For experienced trekkers who want to visit Everest Base Camp but want to avoid the crowds and experience authentic Sherpa culture, this holiday really has it all. Our experienced trekking expert team provides the best services for your comfortable and unforgettable lifetime trek in the high altitude of the Himalayas.

Also at rest day in Kathmandu of this trip, which we particularly recommend for a first visit to Nepal: old royal cityBhaktapur Durbar, Buddhist stupa – Bouddhnath and Hindu temple – Pashupatinath.

The best time to do the Three Passes Trek in the Everest region is during the spring (March to May) or autumn (September to November) seasons. These months offer the most stable weather and favorable trekking conditions in the Himalayas. Here’s a breakdown of the seasons:

  1. Spring (March to May):

    • Weather: Pleasant temperatures with blossoming rhododendrons and other wildflowers.
    • Visibility: Generally clear skies and good visibility of the surrounding peaks.
    • Crowds: Relatively busy, especially in late April and May.
    • Avalanche Risk: Possible risk due to melting snow and ice.

  2. Autumn (September to November):

    • Weather: Cool and dry, with stable conditions after the monsoon season.
    • Visibility: Excellent mountain views due to clear skies.
    • Crowds: Peak trekking season, so trails can be busier but with a vibrant atmosphere.
    • Avalanche Risk: Minimal, as snow levels are low.

Choosing between these seasons largely depends on personal preference for weather, crowd levels, and overall experience. Many trekkers consider late September to mid-November or late March to April as the optimal times for the Three Passes Trek, balancing good weather with manageable crowds. However, keep in mind that weather in the mountains can be unpredictable, so it’s essential to be prepared for varying conditions regardless of the season you choose.

Today your leg has taken a break as you have to walk only 10 minutes to Lukla Airport and return to Kathmandu, where your journey starts and ends! We always book first round flights whenever possible, so when the weather permits, usually, you arrive in Kathmandu at 8 am and return to the hotel at 9 am. But, it all depends on the weather.

Upon your return to Kathmandu, we will transfer you to the hotel for a good bath and relaxation! If there is no direct flight for any reason, arrangements will be made to fly to Kathmandu according to the alternative arrangement. I request you to read the special note in the DAY 02. Stay overnight at the hotel with daily breakfast.

Fly to Ramechhap Airport (474m, 20min), drive to Kathmandu (1350m, 5hr) and walk around Thamel.

  20. Day 20 Buffer day in Kathmandu

Famous for its hilly airports, Nepal offers many domestic flights giving you access to all parts of the country. When there is less time in Nepal, it is better to take a local flight to avoid long journeys. Mountain weather is often unpredictable, but it’s best to add one or two buffer days after your trek to adjust the time for flight delays. If you are planning an international flight around one of your domestic flights from a mountainous area, add at least one day of buffer travel days to your itinerary if possible. We will meet again in the evening for a farewell dinner at one of the best Nepali restaurants in the city, where we will be eager to hear your feedback about the trip.

Here is information about possible one-day activities. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the main attractions of the Kathmandu Valley are three Durbar Square (Kathmandu, Patan and Bhaktapur) and four temples and stupas (Swayambhunath, Boudhanath, Pashupatinath Temple and Changu Narayan Temple). If you want to walk all day (8 hours), you can visit any four places [Boudhanath, Pashupatinath Temple, Changu Narayan Temple and Bhaktapur Durbar Square] or [Swayambhunath, Bungmati, Patan Durbar Square and Kathmandu Durbar Square] in one day. We can arrange a day trip at your request, and the service user will have to pay extra directly for it. Customers can hire a guide and car or rent a car. Stay overnight at the hotel with daily breakfast.

  21. Day 21 Kathmandu: Depart anytime!

After breakfast, you should leave your room and store your luggage at the hotel and relax in the hotel lobby or explore the surrounding local market for last minute shopping for friends and family until you head to the airport for your flight back home.

Due to limited space at Kathmandu Airport, all airlines have requested to report at the check-in counter three hours before the actual flight departure time. Therefore, we will pick you up from the hotel three and a half hours in advance, as the estimated travel time to the airport is around half an hour.

We hope that your visit to Nepal and the activities you do during your visit will remind you to visit Nepal again in the future. As per the service policy of Jagadamba Holidays, your journey will conclude with a farewell at the airport. Have a safe and pleasant journey ahead. Thank you, see you again!

Accommodation offered during the trip

The accommodation we use may vary depending on our package travel and the range of travel destinations. Before or after the trip you can book comfortable hotels in cities like Kathmandu and Pokhara for your stay. If you book a tea house trekking trip, we will provide a small two-bed room for sharing in the hill lodges which is a basic facility but very clean.

Now, better-equipped lodges are also available in Annapurna and Everest areas but we recommend trekkers to use accommodation above 3,500 meters where clean rooms and clean food are readily available. Sometimes a level of flexibility may be required when trekking in remote mountain areas. We believe that you will complete your vacation without any problems and have the trip of a lifetime. If you book camping/trekking, our camping team will manage a comfortable camping site by the river where possible.

There will usually be a dedicated support team on the trip to move luggage and equipment, set up camp, and prepare your food. You will find more detailed information about travel accommodation which is mentioned separately in the lodging section of each vacation package page.

However, you can expect excellent service and high quality in any budget range you choose. You can learn more about different types of travel and their features and the proposed travel price by contacting us directly where we will be very pleased to answer your questions. We always try to choose comfortable accommodation with local character reflecting the best value based on twin share accommodation.

When you book a trip, unless you request a private single room, we will arrange for you to share a twin bed room with a person of the same gender. If you request a private single room, you will need to pay a single room supplementary fee. Please note that during the trek, if the destination is 4000 meters above sea level, only dormitory accommodation with private beds will be available. On trekking trips we try our best but do not promise guaranteed room options. For most of our camping trips, we supply branded two-person tents, including groundsheets.

Mess tent, kitchen tent, toilet tent, service plates, bowls, and all necessities are provided. Members of the mountaineering travel group are requested to manage according to the options given on the website.
